Middle East Shipping: Sohar Delays Reach 2–3 Days in Latest Carrier Update
Hapag-Lloyd reports 2–3-day berth delays at Sohar and up to 36 hours at Salalah; a timely routing update for chemical shipments to Gulf markets.
Hapag-Lloyd’s October 19 operational update reports berth delays of two to three days at Sohar, up to 36 hours at Salalah and up to two days in Bahrain. Upper Gulf terminal operations also face weather-related delays of 24–48 hours.
The carrier lists Jebel Ali as handling ad-hoc vessels only and continues to monitor the regional conflict. These are carrier-reported operating conditions at the update date, rather than a guarantee for an individual shipment.
Relevance to our products — editorial assessment: buyers of mixed or trans 1,3-dichloropropene, 1,2-dichloropropane and allyl chloride using Gulf ports may face changes to arrival planning. A port’s operating status does not itself confirm acceptance of a particular chemical cargo.

Possible Market Impact: Next 1–3 Months
Outlook for the next 1–3 months: Oman, Bahrain and Qatar — continued port delays could lengthen replenishment cycles and increase variability in delivered costs for all four products. Buyers with low inventories may bring purchases forward or split shipments. This does not by itself imply higher Chinese factory prices.
Saudi Arabia and Iraq — the carrier reported no delays at Dammam and Umm Qasr in this update, so delivery prospects should be assessed by port rather than treating all Gulf destinations alike.
India — port waiting times may affect delivery planning, but these announcements do not establish stronger chemical demand or a sustained price rise.
