Year-End Chemical Procurement: From Inquiry to Delivery Planning
As buyers prepare their remaining 2026 purchases and early 2027 requirements, a clear inquiry can make quotation and delivery discussions more productive. For chlorinated chemical intermediates, start with the required specification, order volume and destination, then work toward a mutually confirmed shipment plan.

1. Identify the Exact Product and Grade
Use the product name and required grade together in your inquiry. Mixed 1,3-dichloropropene, trans 1,3-dichloropropene, 1,2-dichloropropane and allyl chloride have separate product specifications. If you have an approved purchasing specification, share it so the quotation can be evaluated against the same requirements.
State which parameters must appear on the Certificate of Analysis (COA), and whether your review requires a sample COA or documents for a particular batch. Confirm the final specification in writing before placing the order.
2. Separate the First Shipment from the Longer-Term Forecast
A forecast helps frame the discussion, while the first shipment needs a definite quantity. Provide the initial order volume, expected repeat-order frequency and desired arrival period. Explain whether the material is intended for an immediate production requirement or inventory replenishment.
If timing is flexible, give an acceptable delivery window. If a production date is fixed, share that date early so both parties can assess the proposed schedule before commercial terms are finalized.
3. Confirm Packaging and Destination Together
Share your preferred packaging, destination port or delivery location, and unloading arrangements. Packaging availability and suitability should be confirmed for the particular product and shipment. The packaging page provides a starting point for this discussion.
Include any required label language, pallet arrangement or receiving-site limitations with the inquiry. These details help avoid revising the shipment plan after a quotation has already been prepared.
4. Compare Quotations on the Same Basis
When comparing offers, align the product specification, quantity, packaging, named delivery location and Incoterm. Also check the quotation validity, payment terms and which transport costs are included. A unit price alone does not show whether two offers cover the same scope.
Ask for a current quotation for your order details. Earlier market articles describe conditions at their publication date; they should not be treated as a current price, available-stock statement or confirmed delivery commitment.
5. Agree on Milestones Before Finalizing the Order
Discuss document review, specification acceptance, packaging confirmation and the proposed dispatch window as separate milestones. Distinguish dispatch from arrival, and confirm which dates are estimates and which have been agreed for the order.
Request the relevant Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and any buyer-required documentation during the review stage. Shipment arrangements and required documents should be coordinated against the actual destination and order.
A Useful First Inquiry
- Product name, grade and required specification
- First-order quantity and expected repeat demand
- Destination port or delivery location
- Preferred packaging and receiving requirements
- Target arrival window and requested Incoterm
- Documents needed for purchasing review
Providing these details together gives the supplier a clearer basis for a tailored response and helps your purchasing team compare the resulting offer.
